Why do you need a booster shot?

Although COVID-19 vaccination for adults ages 65 years and older remains effective in preventing severe disease, recent data suggests vaccination is less effective at preventing infection or milder illness with symptoms over time. It is because of the fact that immune response (antibodies) reduce in number over the period of months. This means if you contract the virus, your immunity will be less effective against it.

  • Benefits of Getting a Booster Shot:

    • In general, antibodies from vaccines decline over time, a booster shot replenishes them to provide you extended immunity.
    • Higher antibody levels from vaccines seem to make the average person less likely to get sick from the coronavirus (vaccine efficacy).
    • Booster shots of mRNA coronavirus vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna) increase antibodies by about 10 times.
    • Higher levels of antibodies seem to be especially important against the Delta variant of the coronavirus
